Holland America Line and Marine Conservation Institute announce the recipients of the 2012 Mia J. Tegner Memorial Research Grants in Marine Environmental History and Historical Marine Ecology. The program supports efforts of promising young scientists and graduate students to study the history of ocean ecology to predict future impacts from human interactions.

Greenland's commercial salmon fishery agreement 'good news'

The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) has welcomed the decision of the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO) at last week's meeting in Edinburgh to continue a moratorium on commercial salmon fishing at Greenland, where salmon from North America?'s east coast rivers migrate to over-winter and feed.

Greenpeace activists obstruct access to EU fisheries Council

Fifty Greenpeace activists have today obstructed access to the Council building in Luxembourg to urge EU ministers to re-think a damaging backroom deal in the CFP. The agreement between ministers could derail any chance of achieving worthwhile improvements to EU fishing rules under a once-in-a-decade reform, warned Greenpeace.
