Tunisia: Nation to Exchange Expertise in Waste Management

From June 21 to 23 Tunisia is hosting the first meeting of the Regional Solid Waste Exchange of Information and Expertise Network dubbed "Sweep-net", in Tunis, on waste management and fight against its negative impact on environment. According to data presented during the meeting, partner countries from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region produce annually about 44 million tons of municipal waste.

Three days before the kick-off of the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa, a major initiative to green the World Cup and help reduce carbon emissions was launched in Johannesburg, Tuesday.The initiative includes three major greening projects: renewable energy interventions in six World Cup host cities, an awareness-raising drive on green tourism both funded by GEF, and a UNEP programme to offset the carbon emissions of eleven World Cup teams.

The guidelines contained in a paper titled 'Rwanda Environmental Education for Sustainable Development Strategy', also include a five-year action plan for 2010-2015 highlighting areas of interest to consider when dealing with environmental conservation.
